It’s December and I've decided to change my usual winter mind-set from “I hate the cold,” to: “isn't it nice to be cozy!” Even if I don’t have a fireplace, I can light soy or beeswax candles and feel warmer and grateful for the light.
Oh November, you’ve got to be f-ing kidding me?! WTF!? Again!? For real?! Okay, you may not know that I am talking about the election, and I won’t. I do not respect that man, and he is not my president.
For me it has been a time to change things up. I’ve cut my news viewing in half, my news reading by about 25%. I’m regularly tuning into Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild. All good things to distract me and get out of my upset bubble. I think November was a reminder that we all have a lot of tools in our toolbox when life gets hard, and it often does.
One thing you will not be surprised to hear from me is that cleaning and decluttering helped! Oh, thank goodness for gathering all of the garbage around the house and throwing it out!
It’s the little things.
With the upcoming holidays, I am sure you are all focused on gift-giving, holiday plans, home visits, etc. A new season and holiday are a great time to look around anew and see what feels stuck.
My eyes are a magnet for these stuck areas in homes: Too many pillows and throws on beds and couches. Sitting on a bed or couch with less is more inviting. A few cozy pillows and one throw and call it a day.
Speaking of magnets. Noooooo… your refrigerator wants its life back.
Take everything off of it: All pictures, notices, phone numbers and magnets. Sit on the floor with them. Going into a new month, what do you need? Can you swap out last year’s photos for this years? Seeing three items on your fridge will spark more joy than 30. Clarity is key.
I’m wishing you a warm December and happy holidays! If you need a quick online consult one- or one-and-a-half hours to review your home and problem spots, give me a call. If you are in need of a one-on-one in person session, I am available, too, if you live nearby.
