Ramekins:
Ya, I love ramekins, what an inexpensive way to show love to your meals and your kitchen. I use one small ramekin on my counter top for a nice finishing or coarse salt, and one for creamy, soft butter. I have 3 more for condiments. Oh, the difference it makes to have clean, shiny white ramekins with yellow mustard, red ketchup and creamy mayo. It will elevate your table. I also love having extras on hand for last-minute guests to throw in some chocolate almonds, nuts, or olives. Ramekins are between $2.50 - $6.50 each. You can buy them here.
(This is my absolutely favorite houseware store in Brooklyn. They deliver!)
A cardboard box or a laptop riser:
For the love of a box! Like Marie Kondo I love a good box. I can stick one in a drawer to organize tights, or scarves, etc. But sometimes we have a rectangular box that looks like it might be helpful to raise our laptop. Of course, you can always buy a computer riser and they are very affordable. Ideally, you want to raise your laptop so that your eyes are meeting the top of the screen. This will help prevent stress and neck pain!
Vinegar: I can’t get enough of vinegar for cleaning: love throwing it in the dishwasher, washing machine and down the drain for an easy refresh. How do I buy it in bulk? Okay, I googled it, and you can buy it in bulk – but then I stopped myself – oh, for gosh sakes, just go down the block and buy some!
Here’s a link to Martha Stewart’s 26 Smart (and Sustainable) Uses for Vinegar Around the House.
Soap-saver bag: This is one of my ultimate favorite soap hacks for all those pesky, messy, bits of soap on the floor of the tub and fighting for room in the soap dish. Put all those pieces in a nice sisal bag. Then use it for washing and exfoliating.
Ironing: My wardrobe has been Marie Kondo’d. But, about every 3-6 months it needs slight adjustments. A great way to notice what no longer sparks joy is to take some time to review what needs ironing. When you touch base with your things in this meaningful way – communing with your garments you become surer about whether you still love the item or not!
Correction:
By the way: At some point I might have recommended buying Felt containers at Ikea. This was a mistake. I ordered four boxes for myself to organize miscellaneous items. The boxes were a rough polyester.
I mistakenly thought that all Felt was sustainable. They look and feel rough and terrible and not like soft wool. For now on, I will always take the time to review Materials of products before purchasing.
